We'd like to upgrade MySQL to version 5.6 or 5.7. In the past I've successfully changed MySQL versions on plain Debian Jessie servers using the MySQL APT Repository but is it safe to do this on a Symbiosis box?
I'll be doing this tonight on a sym-jessie machine as Magento won't run on the version shipped with it.
I believe it's straight forward enough, but I'll let you know how it goes!
I can confirm this has worked. Don't forget to run mysql_upgrade - my sites worked fine without this but phpMyAdmin/etc didn't.
Sorry for the slow response here, but yes this should work.
The symbiosis packages depend upon "a version" of MySQL being installed, but they won't mind if it is newer.
